The standards (our summaries)
Official Virginia codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Number and Number Sense (NS)
- 2.NS.1 Use flexible counting strategies to determine and describe quantities up to 200.
- Count by twos to at least 50, from various even starting points, with tools.
- Count by fives, tens, and twenty-fives to at least 200 with tools.
- Use skip-counting patterns by twos, fives, tens, and twenty-fives to justify the next number.
- Count by hundreds to at least 1,000 starting at 0, with tools.
- Count backward by tens from 200 or less with tools.
- Use skip-counting backward by tens to justify the next number.
- Choose a reasonable estimate up to 1,000 for a contextual problem.
- Represent even numbers up to 50 with two equal groups or addends.
- Represent odd numbers up to 50 with two equal groups plus one.
- Determine whether a number up to 50 is even or odd and justify.
- 2.NS.2 Use base 10 ten-to-one relationships to represent, compare, and order whole numbers up to 999.
- Write the three-digit number shown by a base 10 model.
- Read, write, and represent three-digit numbers in standard, expanded, and word form.
- Identify the place and value of each digit in a three-digit number.
- Explain ten-to-one relationships among ones, tens, and hundreds using models.
- Compose and decompose numbers up to 200 in multiple ways.
- Plot and justify a number up to 100 on a benchmarked number line.
- Compare two whole numbers up to 999 using words and symbols.
- Order up to three whole numbers up to 999 least to greatest and greatest to least.
- 2.NS.3 Use reasoning to solve contextual problems partitioning models into halves, fourths, eighths, thirds and sixths.
- Model and describe fractions as equal-size parts of a whole.
- Explain that more parts in a whole means smaller parts.
- Compose the whole from a given fractional part and its value in context.
- Count by unit fractions up to two wholes using a region model.
- Represent and name fractional parts using area, length, and set models.
- Compare unit fractions using words and symbols with area and length models.
- 2.NS.4 Solve problems counting and representing money amounts up to $2.00.
- Identify a quarter's value and ways to make it with pennies, nickels, or dimes.
- Count mixed coins and one-dollar bills totaling $2.00 or less.
- Construct a set of coins and bills totaling a given amount up to $2.00.
- Represent coin and bill values using the cent and dollar symbols and decimal point.
