How to set up your planner for the year
- Term dates first. Copy your school's term dates, half terms and INSET days onto the first page. Dates differ between councils and academy trusts, so use your own school's calendar. In England you can also look up your council's dates on GOV.UK.
- Year at a glance. Add the fixed points: parents' evenings, report deadlines, assessment weeks, trips and events. Seeing the whole year on one page shows the busy weeks early.
- Weekly grid. Write your timetable into the lesson rows once, print a copy for each week, and use the break and lunch rows for duties and clubs.
- To-do and meetings. Keep one running to-do list and a meeting page, so actions don't get lost in emails.
Printing tips
- Pages print on A4. The year at a glance and weekly grid print landscape; the others print portrait.
- Use Print all pages for the full set, or print the weekly grid on its own as often as you need.
- Empty boxes print as space to write by hand, so you can print a blank planner too.

Frequently asked questions
Does the planner include my term dates?
No. Term dates are set by each council, academy trust or independent school, so the first page has spaces for you to type your own. That way the planner is right for your school.
Is this teacher planner A4?
Yes. Every page is set up for A4 paper and the Word download uses A4 as well.
Does it run from September to August?
Yes. The year at a glance follows the UK academic year, starting in September.
Is what I type saved?
Yes, in this browser on this device only. Nothing is sent to us. Download the Word file to keep a copy.
