Early learning standards
Your state infant-toddler early learning guidelines (physical development, sensory exploration).
Materials and resources
Texture mat or squares (soft, crinkly, bumpy), unbreakable mirror, soft board book
Key vocabulary
soft, bumpy, crinkly
Circle / group time (3 min)
Lap time: sing a gentle song with eye contact.

Art and sensory
Not used at this age; offer safe textures to touch instead.
Music and movement (3 min)
Gentle rhymes with movement (rocking, clapping baby's hands).
Outdoor / gross motor
Lie on a blanket in the shade; look at leaves moving.
Story and early literacy (3 min)
Talk about pictures in a soft book; name what baby touches.
Routines, snack and transitions
Talk through each care routine ("Now we're washing your hands").
Adaptations and support
Keep sessions short and follow each baby's cues; stop when baby is tired or fussy. Always follow safe sleep and supervision rules.
Family connection
Share the texture words so families can use them at home.
Observation notes
Note how long each baby is comfortable in tummy time and how they respond to textures (record in your program's system).
Planned time: 9 minutes
