What it does

The unscrambler on Unscramble Words 4U takes any mix of letters and lists the words you can spell with them. Results update while you type and are arranged in groups by word length, starting with the longest. Every word carries a points score based on the usual tile values from letter-tile board games, so players can compare options at a glance (bonus squares are not counted).

It suits pupils building vocabulary, families playing board games at the kitchen table and adults tackling a puzzle. Because the searching happens inside your own browser, the letters you type stay on your device, and the tool keeps working if the internet drops after the page has loaded.

How to use it

  1. Open the unscrambler and type your letters into the main box. Use Shuffle to mix their order if you want a fresh look, or Clear to start again.
  2. Need a wildcard? A ? or a tap of the space bar stands in for a blank tile. Two blanks at most are allowed, and any letter a blank fills in is underlined and earns no points.
  3. Open More options to add letters the word must start with, end with or contain, and pick an exact length from 2 to 15 letters.
  4. Choose how to sort the list: most common words first, alphabetical, or highest points first.
  5. Under Dictionary, pick UK, US or Both spellings, or switch the word list to another language. For languages with accents, the Ignore accents box treats é and e as the same letter.
  6. Tap any word in the results to open its Wiktionary entry in a new tab and check what it means.

Questions

Is the Word Unscrambler free?

Yes. It is free to use on unscramblewords4u.com with no account needed, and Classfern links to it so teachers and families can find it easily.

Why does my game accept a word that the list doesn’t show?

The tool uses open word lists rather than an official tournament dictionary, so a few rare words can differ either way. For everyday games, homework and puzzles it covers what most people need.

What do the numbers beside each word mean?

Those are points worked out from standard English tile values, where letters such as Q and Z score highest. Bonus squares on a board are not included.

Is it suitable for children?

The word list is a general one, so it can include slang or words you would not choose for a class. An adult should check the results before sharing them on a screen with young pupils.
