Student Lesson Builder
Build a lesson your students work through on their own device: information, questions and a reflection. Share it as a link – no logins, no adverts for students, and the lesson lives inside the link.
Your lessons save in this browser only. The student link holds the whole lesson, so nothing is stored on our website. Don't enter pupils' personal details.

How it works
- Build the lesson. Add information steps (text, a picture from a web address) and questions: multiple choice, true or false, short answer, put in order, matching pairs and a reflection. Up to 40 steps.
- Tag the curriculum (optional). Pick the standards or curriculum statements the lesson covers – for the whole lesson or for single questions – from the same course lists as our Teacher Information Packs. Students don't see them.
- Get the student link. Share it the way you share anything with your class: your learning platform, a QR code on the board, or email. Very long lessons can be shared as a lesson file (.cfl) instead.
- Students work through it on a laptop, Chromebook, tablet or phone, with big buttons, a progress bar, a bigger-text option and an easy-read font. Questions are marked as they go, or at the end – you choose.
- Collect the results. At the end each student gets a short results code. Paste the codes into the results page to see a table of scores for every question, and download it as a CSV file.
Already planned the lesson? In the lesson plan maker, press Make a student version and your plan's title, objective and activities are copied in here, ready to edit.
Safe for students
- The student page has no adverts, no tracking and no cookies, and it is hidden from search engines.
- Students don't log in. If they type a name it stays on their device and only goes into the results code they hand you.
- The lesson is inside the link (after the # sign, which browsers never send to a website), so we never see your lesson or the answers.
- Lesson text is shown as plain text – nobody can put code or hidden links into a lesson.
Questions teachers ask
Is the Student Lesson Builder free?
Yes. Building lessons, sharing links and collecting results codes are free, with no account. Classfern Pro adds class logins and a live view of every student during the lesson.
Do students need an account or an email address?
No. They open the link and start. The name box is optional – first names or initials are enough.
Where are my lessons saved?
In this browser on this device, under My student lessons. Download the lesson file (.cfl) to keep a copy or to move it to another computer.
Why is my link so long?
The whole lesson is packed inside the link so nothing has to be stored on a server. Long lessons make long links; if a link is over about 8,000 characters, share the lesson file instead.
