Algebraic Reasoning: Expressions and Equations (AEE)
- 8.AEE.A.1 Use the properties of integer exponents with powers of 10 to write equivalent number expressions.
- 8.AEE.A.2 Write solutions of equations using square root and cube root symbols.
- 8.AEE.A.3 Estimate very large or very small quantities in scientific notation as a single digit times a power of 10.
- 8.AEE.A.4 Calculate with numbers written in scientific notation.
- 8.AEE.B.5 Graph proportional relationships in real contexts, read the unit rate as the slope and compare relationships.
- 8.AEE.B.6 Write y = mx + b with rational m and b and explain in context why the slope is the same between any two points.
- 8.AEE.C.7 Solve one-variable linear equations with rational coefficients, including variables on both sides, distributing and combining terms.
- 8.AEE.C.8 Find, analyze and interpret solutions of pairs of simultaneous linear equations using graphs or tables.
Algebraic Reasoning: Functions (AFN)
- 8.AFN.A.1 Understand the graph of a function in a real context as its set of input-output pairs.
- 8.AFN.A.2 Compare properties of two functions given in different forms (equation, graph, table or words).
- 8.AFN.A.3 Recognize linear functions by their straight-line graphs and give examples of non-linear functions.
- 8.AFN.B.4 Write a linear function that models how two quantities in a real situation are related.
- 8.AFN.B.5 Describe in words how two quantities are related by studying a graph of a real situation.
Numeric Reasoning: Number Systems (NS)
Geometric Reasoning and Measurement (GM)
- 8.GM.A.1 Check by experiment the properties of rotations, reflections and translations.
- 8.GM.A.2 Know two flat figures are congruent when rigid motions map one onto the other.
- 8.GM.A.3 Use coordinates to describe what dilations, translations, rotations and reflections do to flat figures.
- 8.GM.A.4 Know two flat figures are similar when rigid motions and/or dilations map one onto the other.
- 8.GM.A.5 Give informal arguments about angles in and outside triangles and angles made by a transversal across parallel lines.
- 8.GM.B.6 Tell when to use the Pythagorean Theorem and when its converse in real contexts.
- 8.GM.B.7 Use the Pythagorean Theorem in real contexts to find missing side lengths of right triangles.
- 8.GM.B.8 Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to work out how far apart two points on a coordinate grid are.
- 8.GM.C.9 Choose and use the right volume formula for cones, cylinders and spheres in real problems.
Data Reasoning (DR)
- 8.DR.A.1 Pose questions that explore patterns of association in two-way categorical data.
- 8.DR.B.2 Collect or look at survey and measurement data that show association, and critique how it was collected.
- 8.DR.C.3 Study patterns of association between two variables and reason about distributions to compare groups.
- 8.DR.D.4 Interpret scatter plots of two-variable numerical data to explore association and answer the question.
