The standards (our summaries)

Oregon's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Algebraic Reasoning: Expressions and Equations (AEE)

  • HS.AEE.A.1 Treat parts of an expression as single quantities and reason about how changing a part changes the whole.
  • HS.AEE.A.2 Make and recognize equivalent expressions to understand what a quantity means in context.
  • HS.AEE.A.3 Rearrange formulas and equations to bring out a particular quantity.
  • HS.AEE.B.4 Define variables and write equations in several variables that model relationships, then solve problems.
  • HS.AEE.B.5 Define variables and write inequalities to solve problems in context.
  • HS.AEE.B.6 Solve systems of linear equations and inequalities by reasoning, algebra or technology.
  • HS.AEE.C.7 Express constraints as equations, inequalities or systems and judge whether solutions are workable.
  • HS.AEE.C.8 Build a sound argument to justify a method of solving.
  • HS.AEE.D.9 Know that the solutions of a two-variable equation form a curve, which may be a straight line.
  • HS.AEE.D.10 Explain why the x-values where the graphs of f and g meet solve f(x) = g(x), and interpret them in context.
  • HS.AEE.D.11 Graph solutions of linear inequalities as half-planes and explain a system's solution as where they overlap.

Algebraic Reasoning: Functions (AFN)

  • HS.AFN.A.1 Understand that a function gives exactly one output for each input, so one quantity determines another.
  • HS.AFN.A.2 Use function notation and interpret statements written with it in context.
  • HS.AFN.A.3 Work out what the average rate of change over an interval is and what it means.
  • HS.AFN.B.4 Compare two functions given in different forms and group functions into families by shared features.
  • HS.AFN.B.5 Link a function's domain to its graph and to the situation it models.
  • HS.AFN.C.6 Read key features of functions from different representations and predict features from the context.
  • HS.AFN.C.7 Graph functions with technology to show their key features.
  • HS.AFN.D.8 Model arithmetic patterns with pictures, graphs or explicit formulas.
  • HS.AFN.D.9 Recognize and explain how changes to an equation transform its graph.
  • HS.AFN.D.10 Decide whether a situation is linear, exponential or neither, and interpret the coefficients.

Numeric Reasoning: Number and Quantity (NQ)

  • HS.NQ.A.1 Justify the rules for integer exponents, extend exponents to negative and rational values and use them in models.
  • HS.NQ.A.2 Compare rational and irrational numbers in different forms and use the comparisons in context.
  • HS.NQ.B.3 Choose and interpret units consistently in formulas, graphs and data displays.
  • HS.NQ.B.4 Define and interpret quantities with rational and irrational numbers and justify the choices.
  • HS.NQ.B.5 Report modeled quantities with a level of accuracy that fits the limits of the measurement.

Geometric Reasoning and Measurement (GM)

  • HS.GM.A.1 Use the definitions of rotation, reflection and translation to map congruent figures onto each other in context.
  • HS.GM.A.2 Check properties of dilations from a center and scale factor and solve similar-triangle problems.
  • HS.GM.A.3 Use slopes and the coordinates of polygon vertices to solve problems in context.
  • HS.GM.A.4 Use definitions of transformations and symmetry to justify solutions in context.
  • HS.GM.B.5 Apply and justify theorems on congruent and similar triangles in context.
  • HS.GM.B.6 Justify theorems about lines, angles, triangles and parallelograms and use them to solve problems.
  • HS.GM.B.7 Carry out geometric constructions with a range of tools and methods.
  • HS.GM.C.8 Solve modeling problems with area formulas for polygons and circles.
  • HS.GM.C.9 Use volume and surface area formulas for common solids to solve problems.
  • HS.GM.C.10 Use measures and properties of shapes to describe real objects and solve design problems.
  • HS.GM.C.11 Apply ideas of density (per unit area or volume) when modeling.
  • HS.GM.D.12 Use sine, cosine, tangent and the Pythagorean Theorem in context.
  • HS.GM.D.13 Apply the Pythagorean Theorem in context and use it to derive the standard equation of a circle.
