5-Letter Words

What it does

The page groups the site’s 4,439 common five-letter words by first letter, showing a selection of at most 40 high-frequency words for each letter, with a tile score after each one. JAZZY is the highest scorer, worth 33.

In a Wordle-style game, a player guesses a five-letter word and is told which letters are in the right place, which are in the word but misplaced, and which are absent. Each clue cuts down the possibilities, so the game is really an exercise in deduction. The word site links this list to two helpers: a Wordle solver that reads the colours you have been given and recommends what to try next, and a word finder that shows what still fits once you know some letters and have ruled others out.
