The standards (our summaries)
Wisconsin's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Ratios and Proportional Relationships (6.RP)
- M.6.RP.A.1 Understand ratios and use ratio language to describe how two quantities relate.
- M.6.RP.A.2 Understand a unit rate a/b for a ratio a:b and use rate language.
- M.6.RP.A.3 Use ratio and rate reasoning with tables, tape diagrams, double number lines or equations.
The Number System (6.NS)
- M.6.NS.A.1 Divide fractions by fractions, explain the result and solve word problems with models and equations.
- M.6.NS.B.2 Divide multi-digit whole numbers flexibly and efficiently with strategies or algorithms.
- M.6.NS.B.3 Compute with multi-digit decimals (all four operations) flexibly and efficiently.
- M.6.NS.B.4 Find the GCF of numbers up to 100 and the LCM of numbers up to 12; factor sums with the distributive property.
- M.6.NS.C.5 Understand positive and negative numbers as opposite quantities and explain what zero means in context.
- M.6.NS.C.6 Treat rational numbers as points on a number line and on the coordinate plane, including negatives.
- M.6.NS.C.7 Order rational numbers and understand absolute value.
- M.6.NS.C.8 Graph points in all four quadrants to solve problems, finding distances with coordinates and absolute value.
Expressions and Equations (6.EE)
- M.6.EE.A.1 Write and evaluate numerical expressions with whole-number exponents.
- M.6.EE.A.2 Write, read and evaluate expressions that use letters for numbers.
- M.6.EE.A.3 Use properties of operations to write equivalent expressions.
- M.6.EE.A.4 Identify when two expressions are equivalent for every value of the variable.
- M.6.EE.B.5 Understand solving as finding which values make an equation or inequality true, using substitution.
- M.6.EE.B.6 Use variables for unknowns or any number in a set when writing expressions for problems.
- M.6.EE.B.7 Solve problems with equations x + p = q and px = q for nonnegative rational numbers.
- M.6.EE.B.8 Write inequalities x > c or x < c for conditions and show their many solutions on a number line.
- M.6.EE.C.9 Use variables for two related quantities, write an equation linking them and relate it to tables and graphs.
Geometry (6.G)
- M.6.G.A.1 Find areas of triangles, special quadrilaterals and polygons by composing or decomposing shapes.
- M.6.G.A.2 Find volumes of prisms with fractional edges using unit cubes and the formulas V = lwh and V = Bh.
- M.6.G.A.3 Draw polygons on the coordinate plane and find side lengths from coordinates.
- M.6.G.A.4 Use nets of rectangles and triangles to represent 3D figures and find surface area.
Statistics and Probability (6.SP)
- M.6.SP.A.1 Recognize statistical questions as ones that expect variability in the data.
- M.6.SP.A.2 Understand that data have a distribution described by center, spread and shape.
- M.6.SP.A.3 Recognize that a measure of center summarizes data in one number and variation shows spread.
- M.6.SP.B.4 Display numerical data in dot plots, histograms and box plots.
- M.6.SP.B.5 Summarize numerical data in context.
