The standards (our summaries)
Wisconsin's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking (5.OA)
- M.5.OA.A.1 Evaluate numerical expressions that use parentheses, brackets or braces.
- M.5.OA.A.2 Write simple expressions for calculations and interpret expressions without evaluating them.
- M.5.OA.B.3 Generate two number patterns from rules, relate their terms and graph the ordered pairs.
Number and Operations in Base Ten (5.NBT)
- M.5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that each place is worth ten times the place on its right and one tenth of the place on its left.
- M.5.NBT.A.2 Explain patterns in zeros and decimal point placement when multiplying or dividing by powers of 10.
- M.5.NBT.A.3 Read, write and compare decimals to thousandths.
- M.5.NBT.A.4 Use place value to estimate with decimals in real situations and judge reasonableness.
- M.5.NBT.B.5 Multiply multi-digit whole numbers flexibly and efficiently with strategies or algorithms.
- M.5.NBT.B.6 Divide up to four-digit dividends by two-digit divisors using place value strategies and explain.
- M.5.NBT.B.7 Compute with decimals to hundredths (all four operations) using models and place value strategies.
Number and Operations—Fractions (5.NF)
- M.5.NF.A.1 Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers flexibly, renaming with equivalent fractions; justify with models.
- M.5.NF.A.2 Solve fraction addition and subtraction word problems and check with benchmark fractions and number sense.
- M.5.NF.B.3 Interpret a fraction as equal sharing (numerator divided by denominator) and solve related word problems.
- M.5.NF.B.4 Multiply fractions by whole numbers and by fractions, including mixed numbers.
- M.5.NF.B.5 Interpret multiplication as scaling without calculating.
- M.5.NF.B.6 Solve real-world problems multiplying fractions and mixed numbers with models and equations.
- M.5.NF.B.7 Divide a unit fraction by a whole number, and a whole number by a unit fraction.
Measurement and Data (5.MD)
- M.5.MD.A.1 Convert between units within one system and use conversions in multi-step real problems.
- M.5.MD.B.2 Make line plots of measurements in fractions of a unit and solve problems with the data.
- M.5.MD.C.3 Recognize volume as an attribute of solids and understand volume measurement.
- M.5.MD.C.4 Measure volume by counting unit cubes in cubic cm, in, ft or improvised units.
- M.5.MD.C.5 Relate volume to multiplication and addition and solve volume problems.
Geometry (5.G)
- M.5.G.A.1 Understand the coordinate plane as two perpendicular number lines and locate points with ordered pairs.
- M.5.G.A.2 Graph points in the first quadrant to represent problems and interpret coordinates in context.
- M.5.G.B.3 Understand that attributes of a category of 2D figures belong to all its subcategories.
- M.5.G.B.4 Classify 2D figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
