The standards (our summaries)

Oregon's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Algebraic Reasoning: Expressions and Equations (AEE)

  • 6.AEE.A.1 Write and evaluate number expressions with whole-number bases and exponents.
  • 6.AEE.A.2 Write, read and evaluate expressions with letters, translating between words and symbols.
  • 6.AEE.A.3 Use properties of operations to make equivalent expressions and to test whether two expressions are equivalent.
  • 6.AEE.B.4 See solving as finding which values from a set make an equation or inequality true, checking by substitution.
  • 6.AEE.B.5 Use variables for numbers and write expressions to solve real problems.
  • 6.AEE.B.6 Write and solve one-step equations such as x + p = q or px = q with non-negative rationals in real contexts.
  • 6.AEE.B.7 Write x > c or x < c to describe a limit in a problem and graph the solutions on a number line.
  • 6.AEE.C.8 Use variables for two linked quantities and write an equation giving one in terms of the other.

Proportional Reasoning: Ratios and Proportions (RP)

  • 6.RP.A.1 Understand ratios in real contexts and use ratio language to describe how two quantities relate.
  • 6.RP.A.2 Understand unit rates in real contexts and use rate language for ratio relationships.
  • 6.RP.A.3 Solve problems with ratio and rate reasoning, using equivalent ratios, unit rates, percents and unit conversions.

Numeric Reasoning: Number Systems (NS)

  • 6.NS.A.1 Model, interpret and calculate quotients of fractions to solve real problems.
  • 6.NS.B.2 Divide multi-digit numbers fluently with accurate, efficient, flexible strategies and algorithms.
  • 6.NS.B.3 Carry out all four operations with positive rational numbers fluently using flexible strategies.
  • 6.NS.B.4 Find greatest common factors and least common multiples and factor out a common factor with the distributive property.
  • 6.NS.C.5 Use positive and negative numbers for opposite quantities in real contexts and explain what zero means.
  • 6.NS.C.6 Place rational numbers on number lines and extend to coordinate axes with negative values.
  • 6.NS.C.7 Read inequalities as positions on a number line and explain order and absolute value in context.
  • 6.NS.C.8 Plot points in all four quadrants and find distances between points using coordinates and absolute value.

Geometric Reasoning and Measurement (GM)

  • 6.GM.A.1 Find areas of triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons by joining or splitting them into simpler shapes.
  • 6.GM.A.2 Find volumes of rectangular prisms with fractional edges using unit-fraction cubes and formulas.
  • 6.GM.A.3 Draw polygons on a four-quadrant grid from vertex coordinates and find side lengths.
  • 6.GM.A.4 Draw nets of rectangles and triangles for solids and use them to work out surface area.

Data Reasoning (DR)

  • 6.DR.A.1 Pose statistical questions that expect variation in the data and allow for it in the answers.
  • 6.DR.B.2 Collect and record data with technology and describe numerical data sets by center and spread.
  • 6.DR.C.3 Study data displays and describe measures of center and variability with suitable displays.
  • 6.DR.D.4 Use measures of center to describe differences between groups when answering the question.
