The standards (our summaries)

Oregon's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Algebraic Reasoning: Operations (OA)

  • 5.OA.A.1 Write and evaluate number expressions that use parentheses.
  • 5.OA.A.2 Write expressions that record calculations and interpret expressions without working them out.
  • 5.OA.B.3 Make two number patterns from rules, relate matching terms and graph the ordered pairs.

Numeric Reasoning: Base Ten Arithmetic (NBT)

  • 5.NBT.A.1 Know that each place is worth 10 times the place to its right and one tenth of the place to its left.
  • 5.NBT.A.2 Use whole-number exponents for powers of 10 and explain where digits move when multiplying or dividing by them.
  • 5.NBT.A.3 Read, write and compare decimals to thousandths.
  • 5.NBT.A.4 Use place value to round decimals to any place.
  • 5.NBT.B.5 Multiply multi-digit whole numbers fluently with flexible strategies and algorithms based on place value.
  • 5.NBT.B.6 Divide up to four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers using a range of strategies.
  • 5.NBT.B.7 Carry out all four operations with decimals to hundredths using a range of strategies and explain the reasoning.

Numeric Reasoning: Fractions (NF)

  • 5.NF.A.1 Find sums and differences of fractions whose denominators differ, including improper fractions and mixed numbers.
  • 5.NF.A.2 Solve real problems adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, including mixed numbers.
  • 5.NF.B.3 See a fraction as the numerator divided by the denominator and solve real division problems with fraction answers.
  • 5.NF.B.4 Find products where a fraction multiplies a whole number or another fraction, and areas of rectangles with fractional sides.
  • 5.NF.B.5 Think of multiplication as scaling by comparing sizes of products, and represent fraction multiplication and division.
  • 5.NF.B.6 Solve real problems multiplying common fractions and mixed numbers.
  • 5.NF.B.7 Divide a unit fraction by a whole number and a whole number by a unit fraction, including in real problems.

Geometric Reasoning and Measurement (GM)

  • 5.GM.A.1 Plot and name first-quadrant points as (x, y), knowing the coordinates are distances along the axes.
  • 5.GM.A.2 Plot first-quadrant points for real situations and explain what the coordinates mean.
  • 5.GM.B.3 Sort flat shapes into a hierarchy by their properties and explain how the categories relate.
  • 5.GM.C.4 Convert between standard units in one system and use conversions in multistep real problems.
  • 5.GM.D.5 Understand volume as a measurable property of solid shapes.
  • 5.GM.D.6 Find the volume of rectangular prisms by counting unit cubes in standard and non-standard units.
  • 5.GM.D.7 Link the volume of rectangular prisms to multiplying and adding and solve real volume problems.

Data Reasoning (DR)

  • 5.DR.A.1 Pose questions and plan how to collect data involving fraction operations that line plots can answer.
  • 5.DR.B.2 Study line plots of number data and bar graphs of category data to answer the questions asked.
