The standards (our summaries)

Oregon's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Algebraic Reasoning: Operations (OA)

  • 4.OA.A.1 Read a multiplication equation as a comparison and write comparison statements as multiplication equations.
  • 4.OA.A.2 Multiply or divide to solve real comparison problems, telling multiplicative from additive comparison.
  • 4.OA.A.3 Solve multistep real problems with whole numbers and all four operations, making sense of remainders.
  • 4.OA.B.4 Find factor pairs for numbers 1–100 and identify multiples, primes and composites.
  • 4.OA.C.5 Study number, visual or real-life patterns that follow a given rule.

Numeric Reasoning: Base Ten Arithmetic (NBT)

  • 4.NBT.A.1 Know that a digit is worth ten times what it would be worth one place to the right.
  • 4.NBT.A.2 Read, write and compare multi-digit numbers as numerals, names and in expanded form, using comparison symbols.
  • 4.NBT.A.3 Round large whole numbers to any chosen place using place value.
  • 4.NBT.B.4 Add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers fluently with flexible strategies and algorithms.
  • 4.NBT.B.5 Multiply up to four digits by one digit, and two digits by two digits, with place value strategies.
  • 4.NBT.B.6 Divide up to four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, finding quotients and remainders.

Numeric Reasoning: Fractions (NF)

  • 4.NF.A.1 Use fraction models to recognize, make and explain equivalent fractions.
  • 4.NF.A.2 Compare fractions with different numerators or denominators, record with symbols and justify.
  • 4.NF.B.3 See a fraction as a sum of unit fractions and solve real problems adding and subtracting like denominators.
  • 4.NF.B.4 Multiply a fraction by a whole number and solve real problems that need it.
  • 4.NF.C.5 Use models to show tenths and hundredths equivalents and add two such fractions.
  • 4.NF.C.6 Use and read decimal notation for fractions with denominator 10 or 100.
  • 4.NF.C.7 Compare decimals to hundredths by thinking about size, recording with >, = or <.

Geometric Reasoning and Measurement (GM)

  • 4.GM.A.1 Draw and find points, lines, segments, rays, angles and parallel or perpendicular lines in figures.
  • 4.GM.A.2 Sort flat shapes by whether they have parallel or perpendicular lines or particular angles.
  • 4.GM.A.3 Recognize and draw lines of symmetry in flat shapes.
  • 4.GM.B.4 Know how units compare in size and convert a measurement from a bigger unit into a smaller one.
  • 4.GM.B.5 Use all four operations and unit sizes to solve real measurement problems with simple fractions or decimals.
  • 4.GM.B.6 Apply rectangle area and perimeter formulas in real and mathematical problems.
  • 4.GM.C.7 Understand an angle as two rays with a shared endpoint and how angles are measured.
  • 4.GM.C.8 Measure angles in whole degrees with a protractor and sketch angles of a given size.
  • 4.GM.C.9 Know that angle measures add: a whole angle equals the sum of its non-overlapping parts.

Data Reasoning (DR)

  • 4.DR.A.1 Pose questions and plan how to collect fraction data that line plots can answer.
  • 4.DR.B.2 Study line plots of measurements, including fractions with one denominator, and interpret them to answer questions.
