The standards (our summaries)

North Dakota's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Mathematical Attributes, grades 6–8 (MA)

  • 6-8.MA.P Analyze information, make a flexible plan for real problems, check the solution makes sense and revise (applies to grades 6–8).
  • 6-8.MA.C Make connections within and across concepts, with examples and evidence (applies to grades 6–8).
  • 6-8.MA.R Reason logically, using evidence to evaluate and explain thinking (applies to grades 6–8).

Number and Operations (NO)

  • 6.NO.NS.1 Show how nonzero rational numbers relate to their opposites on number lines and what zero means in context.
  • 6.NO.NS.2 Write, interpret and explain the order of rational numbers on number lines and in real contexts.
  • 6.NO.O.1 Divide whole numbers of up to four digits by two-digit divisors with strategies or procedures.
  • 6.NO.O.2 Add and subtract fractions and decimals to hundredths, including word problems.
  • 6.NO.O.3 Solve and interpret problems by multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals, using visual models.
  • 6.NO.O.4 Find the greatest common factor of two numbers up to 100 and least common multiple of two numbers up to 12.

Algebraic Reasoning (AR)

  • 6.AR.RP.1 Describe ratio relationships with ratio language and models, part-to-part and part-to-whole.
  • 6.AR.RP.2 Describe and calculate unit rates using rate language and models.
  • 6.AR.RP.3 Use ratio tables, tape diagrams, double number lines and equations to solve ratio and rate problems.
  • 6.AR.RP.4 Find a percent as a rate per 100 and find the whole from a part and a percent.
  • 6.AR.RP.5 Convert units within and between systems using ratio reasoning and conversion factors.
  • 6.AR.EE.1 Read, write and evaluate numerical expressions with exponents, grouping symbols and order of operations.
  • 6.AR.EE.2 Read and evaluate algebraic expressions with exponents and grouping, and write expressions for situations.
  • 6.AR.EE.3 Identify equivalent expressions using properties of operations.
  • 6.AR.EE.4 Explain what a solution to an equation or inequality is and check whether a number is one.
  • 6.AR.EE.5 Write and solve x + p = q and px = q for nonnegative whole numbers or decimals.
  • 6.AR.EE.6 Write inequalities x > c or x < c for constraints and show solutions on number lines.

Geometry and Measurement (GM)

  • 6.GM.AV.1 Derive triangle area from rectangle area and find areas of triangles and quadrilaterals by splitting or combining.
  • 6.GM.AV.2 Describe the volume of a right rectangular prism and use formulas, including fractional edges.
  • 6.GM.GF.1 Name and plot points with rational coordinates in every quadrant.
  • 6.GM.GF.2 Draw polygons from vertex coordinates and find side lengths between points sharing a coordinate.
  • 6.GM.GF.3 Show 3D figures with nets and find surface areas of prisms and pyramids from their nets.

Data, Probability and Statistics (DPS)

  • 6.DPS.D.1 Write a statistical question that measures of center or variability can answer.
  • 6.DPS.D.2 Calculate mean, median, range and mean absolute deviation, and find any modes.
  • 6.DPS.D.3 Identify outliers and explain their effect on center and variability, justifying which measures to use.
  • 6.DPS.D.4 Display numerical data in dot plots and histograms and describe gaps, clusters and skew.
