The standards (our summaries)
Montana's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Ratios and Proportional Relationships (RP)
The Number System (NS)
- MT.6.NS.1 Divide fractions by fractions and solve problems in context.
- MT.6.NS.2 Divide multi-digit numbers accurately and efficiently with the standard algorithm.
- MT.6.NS.3 Use the standard algorithm for all four operations with multi-digit decimals.
- MT.6.NS.4 Find greatest common factors and least common multiples and use the distributive property with common factors.
- MT.6.NS.5 Use positive and negative numbers for opposite quantities and explain what zero means in context.
- MT.6.NS.6 Place rational numbers on number lines and coordinate planes and link sign changes to reflections.
- MT.6.NS.7 Order rational numbers, see absolute value as distance from zero and explain inequality statements.
- MT.6.NS.8 Graph in all four quadrants and find distances between points, using cultural contexts.
Expressions and Equations (EE)
- MT.6.EE.1 Write and evaluate numerical expressions with whole-number exponents.
- MT.6.EE.2 Write, name the parts of and evaluate expressions with variables, including formulas.
- MT.6.EE.3 Use properties of operations to write equivalent expressions and decide when expressions are equivalent.
- MT.6.EE.4 Use substitution to test whether a number from a set makes an equation or inequality true.
- MT.6.EE.5 Use variables for unknown numbers or numbers in a set when writing expressions in context.
- MT.6.EE.6 Write and solve x + p = q and px = q for nonnegative rational numbers.
- MT.6.EE.7 Write inequalities x > c or x < c and graph their solutions on number lines.
- MT.6.EE.8 Analyze two changing quantities with graphs and tables and write equations linking them, including cultural contexts.
Geometry (G)
- MT.6.G.1 Find areas of triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons by combining or splitting shapes, including cultural contexts.
- MT.6.G.2 Find the volume of rectangular prisms with fraction edges using small cubes and formulas.
- MT.6.G.3 Draw polygons from vertex coordinates and find lengths of horizontal or vertical sides.
- MT.6.G.4 Use nets of rectangles and triangles to find surface area in context, including cultural contexts.
Statistics and Probability (SP)
- MT.6.SP.1 Recognize a statistical question as one that expects and allows for variability in data.
- MT.6.SP.2 Describe a data distribution by its center, spread and overall shape, including cultural contexts.
- MT.6.SP.3 Know that a measure of center and a measure of variation each sum up data in one number.
- MT.6.SP.4 Display number data in dot plots, histograms or box plots and describe patterns and outliers.
- MT.6.SP.5 Summarize a sample by its size, how it was measured and suitable measures of center and variability.
