The standards (our summaries)

Iowa's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Ratios and Proportional Relationships (RP)

  • 7.RP.A.1 Find unit rates from ratios of fractions, including lengths, areas and other quantities in like or different units.
  • 7.RP.A.2 Recognize and represent proportional relationships (a–d: test for proportionality, constant of proportionality, equations, meaning of points).
  • 7.RP.A.3 Solve multi-step ratio and percent problems with proportions, e.g. interest, tax, markups, tips, fees and percent error.

The Number System (NS)

  • 7.NS.A.1 Add and subtract rational numbers and show them on number lines (a–d: opposites making 0, distance, additive inverse, properties).
  • 7.NS.A.2 Multiply and divide rational numbers using properties of operations (a–d, including sign rules and decimals that end or repeat).
  • 7.NS.A.3 Solve real and mathematical problems with all four operations on rational numbers, including complex fractions.

Expressions and Equations (EE)

  • 7.EE.A.1 Apply operation properties to add, subtract, factor and expand linear expressions that have rational coefficients.
  • 7.EE.A.2 Describe how rewriting an expression in another form can show how quantities in a problem relate.
  • 7.EE.B.3 Solve multi-step problems using signed rational numbers in any form, converting between forms and checking by estimating.
  • 7.EE.B.4 Use variables to write and solve simple equations and inequalities (a: px + q = r and p(x + q) = r; b: inequalities and their graphs).

Geometry (G)

  • 7.G.A.1 Solve scale drawing problems, finding real lengths and areas and redrawing at another scale.
  • 7.G.A.2 Draw shapes with given conditions, focusing on triangles from three measures and whether one, many or no triangle results.
  • 7.G.A.3 Describe the 2D cross-sections made by slicing right rectangular prisms and pyramids.
  • 7.G.B.4 Choose and use the right formula for circle area and circumference to solve problems.
  • 7.G.B.5 Use supplementary, complementary, vertical and adjacent angles to write and solve equations for unknown angles.
  • 7.G.B.6 Solve area, volume and surface-area problems for shapes built from triangles, quadrilaterals, other polygons, cubes and right prisms.

Statistics and Probability (SP)

  • 7.SP.A.1 Explain how a sample can give information about a population when it is representative, and why random sampling helps.
  • 7.SP.A.2 Use random samples to draw inferences about a population and simulate several samples to see how estimates vary.
  • 7.SP.B.3 Judge informally the overlap of two data distributions with similar variability, giving the difference in centers as a multiple of variability.
  • 7.SP.B.4 Use measures of center and variability from random samples to compare two populations informally.
  • 7.SP.C.5 Express how likely a chance event is as a number between 0 and 1.
  • 7.SP.C.6 Estimate probability by collecting data and observing long-run relative frequency, and predict frequencies from probabilities.
  • 7.SP.C.7 Find probabilities of simple events when all outcomes are equally likely and compare models with observed data.
  • 7.SP.C.8 Find probabilities of compound events using organized lists, tables, tree diagrams and simulation.
