The standards (our summaries)

Georgia's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Mathematical Practices (MP)

  • 7.MP Keep going with problems, reason, work with others, explain thinking, use feedback and set learning goals.

Numerical Reasoning (NR)

  • 7.NR.1 Solve multi-step problems with all four operations on integers, percents, fractions and decimals.
    • 7.NR.1.1 Know that a number and its opposite add to zero and link this to real situations that cancel out.
    • 7.NR.1.2 Show adding rational numbers as movement on a number line, with direction set by the sign.
    • 7.NR.1.3 Show adding and subtracting rational numbers on horizontal and vertical number lines in context.
    • 7.NR.1.4 Explain subtracting as adding the opposite and use absolute value for distance between numbers.
    • 7.NR.1.5 Use properties and part-whole thinking to add and subtract rational numbers efficiently.
    • 7.NR.1.6 Make sense of multiplying rational numbers through context, repeated addition and models.
    • 7.NR.1.7 Explain that integers can be divided when the divisor is not zero, giving a rational quotient.
    • 7.NR.1.8 Model multiplying and dividing integers and interpret products and quotients in context.
    • 7.NR.1.9 Use properties of operations to multiply and divide rational numbers in real situations.
    • 7.NR.1.10 Convert between fractions, decimals and percents and notice terminating or repeating decimals.
    • 7.NR.1.11 Solve multi-step problems with rational numbers and check answers by estimating.

Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning (PAR)

  • 7.PAR.2 Use properties of operations to write equivalent expressions and interpret them in context.
    • 7.PAR.2.1 Use properties to add, subtract, factor and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
    • 7.PAR.2.2 Rewrite expressions from a real problem in different forms to show how quantities relate.
  • 7.PAR.3 Model situations with equations and inequalities and solve them with properties of equality.
    • 7.PAR.3.1 Write and solve two-step linear equations from real problems and interpret the solution.
    • 7.PAR.3.2 Write, solve, graph and interpret linear inequalities from real situations.
  • 7.PAR.4 Recognize proportional relationships and show and solve them with tables, graphs and equations.
    • 7.PAR.4.1 Find unit rates from ratios of fractions and measurements in like or unlike units.
    • 7.PAR.4.2 Find the constant of proportionality from tables, graphs, equations, diagrams and descriptions.
    • 7.PAR.4.3 Decide whether two quantities are proportional and justify the decision.
    • 7.PAR.4.4 Move between words, tables, equations and graphs for a proportional relationship.
    • 7.PAR.4.5 Explain what points on a proportional graph mean, especially (0, 0) and (1, r).
    • 7.PAR.4.6 Solve scale drawing problems, finding actual lengths and areas and redrawing to a new scale.
    • 7.PAR.4.7 Use similar triangles to explain why the slope is the same between any two points on a line.
    • 7.PAR.4.8 Graph proportional relationships, read the unit rate as slope and compare different representations.
    • 7.PAR.4.9 Use proportional reasoning in multi-step ratio and percent problems such as tax, markups and interest.
    • 7.PAR.4.10 Predict features of a population from a representative sample and know a sample's limits.
    • 7.PAR.4.11 Judge sampling methods and decide which are random and support valid conclusions.
    • 7.PAR.4.12 Use repeated random samples to see how much a sample mean may differ from the population mean.

Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (GSR)

  • 7.GSR.5 Solve real problems with angles, circles, surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders.
    • 7.GSR.5.1 Measure angles in whole non-standard units such as wedges.
    • 7.GSR.5.2 Measure angles to the nearest degree with a protractor.
    • 7.GSR.5.3 Use supplementary, complementary, vertical and adjacent angles to find unknown angles.
    • 7.GSR.5.4 Explore how pi, radius, diameter, circumference and area are related and reason toward the formulas.
    • 7.GSR.5.5 Use the circle area and circumference formulas to solve everyday problems.
    • 7.GSR.5.6 Solve real surface area problems for right prisms and cylinders.
    • 7.GSR.5.7 Describe the 2-D cross sections made by horizontal and vertical slices of solids.
    • 7.GSR.5.8 Explore the volume of cylinders and right prisms with cubes and as base area times height.

Probabilistic Reasoning (PR)

  • 7.PR.6 Explore chance and build probability models to find probabilities of simple events.
    • 7.PR.6.1 Give the likelihood of an event as a number from 0 to 1 and interpret values near 0, 1/2 and 1.
    • 7.PR.6.2 Estimate probability from data, knowing relative frequency gets close to theoretical probability over many trials.
    • 7.PR.6.3 Build a probability model, compare experimental and theoretical results and explain differences.
    • 7.PR.6.4 Build a model where all outcomes are equally likely and use it to find probabilities.
    • 7.PR.6.5 Build a model from observed frequencies and judge whether outcomes seem equally likely.
