The standards (our summaries)
Georgia's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Mathematical Practices (MP)
- 6.MP Keep going with problems, reason, work with others, explain thinking, use feedback and set learning goals.
Numerical Reasoning (NR)
- 6.NR.1 Solve problems with operations on whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- 6.NR.2 Investigate statistical questions by collecting, displaying and summarizing data with center and spread. (being checked)
- 6.NR.2.1 Describe the typical value of a data set as a fair share (mean as leveling out).
- 6.NR.2.2 Summarize categorical and numerical data with bar graphs, dot plots, histograms and box plots.
- 6.NR.2.3 Describe the center, spread and shape of numerical data to answer a statistical question.
- 6.NR.2.4 Carry out simple investigations and use center and spread to draw conclusions and predict.
- 6.NR.2.5 Choose measures of center and spread that fit the shape and context of a data set.
- 6.NR.2.6 Explain how adding or removing one data value changes the mean and median.
- 6.NR.3 Solve problems with integers and their opposites and place rational numbers on a number line.
- 6.NR.3.1 Compare integers and explain what zero means in real situations with positive and negative values.
- 6.NR.3.2 Order and plot integers on number lines and link each integer to its opposite.
- 6.NR.3.3 Explain that opposite signs are on opposite sides of zero and that the opposite of an opposite is the number.
- 6.NR.3.4 Interpret and compare rational numbers with equality and inequality symbols in context.
- 6.NR.3.5 Explain absolute value as distance from zero and use it with real quantities.
- 6.NR.3.6 Tell the difference between comparing absolute values and comparing order.
- 6.NR.4 Solve problems with ratios, rates, percents and unit conversions using proportional reasoning.
- 6.NR.4.1 Explain ratios, represent them and use ratio language to describe two quantities.
- 6.NR.4.2 Make tables of equivalent ratios, find missing values, plot the pairs and compare ratios.
- 6.NR.4.3 Solve proportion problems using chosen strategies.
- 6.NR.4.4 Describe rates and unit rates as part of a ratio relationship.
- 6.NR.4.5 Solve unit rate problems, including unit pricing and constant speed.
- 6.NR.4.6 Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 and solve everyday percent problems.
- 6.NR.4.7 Convert measurements within and between customary and metric units using ratios.
Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning (PAR)
- 6.PAR.6 Write, evaluate and interpret numerical and algebraic expressions that model situations.
- 6.PAR.6.1 Write and evaluate numerical expressions with rational bases and whole-number exponents.
- 6.PAR.6.2 Find greatest common factors and least common multiples and use the distributive property.
- 6.PAR.6.3 Write and read expressions with numbers and variables that represent real situations.
- 6.PAR.6.4 Evaluate expressions for given values of the variables using the order of operations.
- 6.PAR.6.5 Use properties of operations to write equivalent expressions.
- 6.PAR.7 Write and solve one-step equations and inequalities that model real situations.
- 6.PAR.7.1 Decide whether given values make one-step equations and inequalities true.
- 6.PAR.7.2 Write one-step equations and inequalities for problems and explain what the variable stands for.
- 6.PAR.7.3 Solve one-step equations of the forms x + p = q, px = q and x/p = q with nonnegative rational numbers.
- 6.PAR.7.4 Write inequalities with infinitely many solutions and show them on a number line.
- 6.PAR.8 Graph rational numbers on the coordinate plane, draw polygons from vertices and find side lengths.
- 6.PAR.8.1 Place rational numbers on number lines and ordered pairs on the coordinate plane.
- 6.PAR.8.2 Explain how the signs of an ordered pair tell which quadrant it is in.
- 6.PAR.8.3 Plot points in all four quadrants and find distances between points sharing a coordinate.
- 6.PAR.8.4 Draw polygons from vertex coordinates and find lengths of sides that share an x- or y-coordinate.
Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (GSR)
- 6.GSR.5 Solve real problems involving area, surface area and volume.
