The standards (our summaries)

Georgia's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Mathematical Practices (MP)

  • 4.MP Keep going with problems, reason, work with others, explain thinking, use feedback and set learning goals.

Numerical Reasoning (NR)

  • 4.NR.1 Use base-ten place value patterns to compare and round whole numbers to the hundred thousands.
    • 4.NR.1.1 Read and write multi-digit whole numbers in numerals and expanded form.
    • 4.NR.1.2 Explain that each place is worth ten times the place to its right.
    • 4.NR.1.3 Order and compare multi-digit numbers using place value and >, = and <.
    • 4.NR.1.4 Round multi-digit whole numbers to the nearest thousand, ten thousand or hundred thousand.
  • 4.NR.2 Use part-whole strategies to add, subtract, multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers in problems.
    • 4.NR.2.1 Add and subtract multi-digit numbers fluently using place value and properties.
    • 4.NR.2.2 Solve and model multiplicative comparison problems and tell them apart from additive ones.
    • 4.NR.2.3 Multiply up to a four-digit number by a one-digit number, or two two-digit numbers, and explain.
    • 4.NR.2.4 Divide up to four-digit numbers by one-digit divisors and interpret quotients and remainders.
    • 4.NR.2.5 Solve multi-step problems with all four operations and check answers by estimating.
  • 4.NR.4 Solve problems with adding, subtracting, comparing and finding equivalent fractions using models.
    • 4.NR.4.1 Explain and make equivalent fractions, including fractions greater than 1.
    • 4.NR.4.2 Compare fractions with the same numerator or denominator that refer to the same whole.
    • 4.NR.4.3 Compare fractions with different numerators and denominators using tools and strategies.
    • 4.NR.4.4 Write whole numbers and fractions as sums of unit fractions.
    • 4.NR.4.5 Break a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way.
    • 4.NR.4.6 Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators.
  • 4.NR.5 Solve problems with tenths and hundredths, linking fractions and decimals and comparing decimals.
    • 4.NR.5.1 Show equivalent fractions with denominators 10 and 100 and add two such fractions.
    • 4.NR.5.2 Write fractions with denominator 10 or 100 as decimals, and decimals as fractions.
    • 4.NR.5.3 Compare decimals to hundredths and justify the comparison with symbols.

Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning (PAR)

  • 4.PAR.3 Make and study number and shape patterns, rules, factors, multiples and prime and composite numbers.
    • 4.PAR.3.1 Make number and shape patterns that follow a given rule.
    • 4.PAR.3.2 Use input-output rules and tables to show patterns and solve problems.
    • 4.PAR.3.3 Find factor pairs for numbers 1 to 100 and multiples of one-digit numbers up to 100.
    • 4.PAR.3.4 Decide whether numbers from 1 to 100 are prime or composite using factor pairs.

Measurement & Data Reasoning (MDR)

  • 4.MDR.6 Measure time and objects to solve everyday problems and use graphs to answer questions.
    • 4.MDR.6.1 Solve problems with elapsed time, metric measures and unit conversions, including simple fractions.
    • 4.MDR.6.2 Ask and answer questions about collected data shown in suitable graphs.
    • 4.MDR.6.3 Make dot plots of measurements recorded to the nearest eighth of an inch.

Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (GSR)

  • 4.GSR.7 Explore angles and estimate and measure them.
    • 4.GSR.7.1 Recognize angles formed by two rays with a shared endpoint and draw right, acute and obtuse angles.
    • 4.GSR.7.2 Measure angles in relation to the 360 degrees of a circle.
  • 4.GSR.8 Draw figures, classify polygons by properties and solve area and perimeter problems for rectangles.
    • 4.GSR.8.1 Draw and find points, lines, rays, angles, parallel and perpendicular lines and lines of symmetry.
    • 4.GSR.8.2 Classify and compare polygons by symmetry, parallel or perpendicular sides, angles and side lengths.
    • 4.GSR.8.3 Solve area and perimeter problems for shapes made of rectangles with whole-number sides.
