The standards (our summaries)

Georgia's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Mathematical Practices (MP)

  • 3.MP Keep going with problems, reason, work with others, explain thinking, use feedback and set learning goals.

Numerical Reasoning (NR)

  • 3.NR.1 Use place value to read, write and compare numbers to 10,000 and to round numbers.
    • 3.NR.1.1 Read and write numbers up to 10,000 in base-ten numerals and expanded form.
    • 3.NR.1.2 Compare numbers up to 10,000 using place value and the comparison symbols.
    • 3.NR.1.3 Round whole numbers up to 1,000 to the nearest 10 or 100.
  • 3.NR.4 Show fractions with denominators 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 using visual models.
    • 3.NR.4.1 Describe a unit fraction and how copies of it build other fractions.
    • 3.NR.4.2 Compare two unit fractions with models, knowing both must refer to the same whole.
    • 3.NR.4.3 Represent fractions, including ones greater than 1, in several ways.
    • 3.NR.4.4 Recognize and make simple equivalent fractions, including fractions equal to whole numbers.

Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning (PAR)

  • 3.PAR.2 Use part-whole thinking to add and subtract whole numbers up to 10,000.
    • 3.PAR.2.1 Add and subtract within 1,000 fluently, choosing flexible strategies.
    • 3.PAR.2.2 Add and subtract within 10,000 using place value and properties, and justify with equations.
  • 3.PAR.3 Use part-whole thinking to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100.
    • 3.PAR.3.1 Describe, continue and make number patterns linked to multiplication and make predictions.
    • 3.PAR.3.2 Show single-digit multiplication and division facts with strategies and explain how they relate.
    • 3.PAR.3.3 Use properties of operations to multiply and divide within 100 (names of properties not needed).
    • 3.PAR.3.4 Use the meaning of the equal sign to decide whether two expressions are equal.
    • 3.PAR.3.5 Multiply one-digit numbers by multiples of 10 from 10 to 90 using place value.
    • 3.PAR.3.6 Solve real-life multiplication and division word problems within 100 with strategies and models.
    • 3.PAR.3.7 Solve multiplication and division problems within 100 using equations with a letter for the unknown.

Measurement & Data Reasoning (MDR)

  • 3.MDR.5 Solve problems about length, liquid volume, mass and time, and use graphs to answer questions.
    • 3.MDR.5.1 Ask and answer everyday questions using collected data and graphs.
    • 3.MDR.5.2 Tell and write time to the minute and estimate to the nearest quarter hour on analog clocks.
    • 3.MDR.5.3 Solve elapsed-time problems in hour, half-hour and quarter-hour steps within a.m. or p.m.
    • 3.MDR.5.4 Measure lengths to the nearest half and quarter inch with a ruler.
    • 3.MDR.5.5 Estimate and measure liquid volume, length and mass in customary units and solve problems.

Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (GSR)

  • 3.GSR.6 Find attributes of polygons such as parallel and perpendicular sides, right angles and symmetry.
    • 3.GSR.6.1 Find parallel and perpendicular segments and right angles, including in polygons, and use them.
    • 3.GSR.6.2 Classify, compare and contrast polygons, especially quadrilaterals, by their properties.
    • 3.GSR.6.3 Find lines of symmetry in polygons.
  • 3.GSR.7 Understand area of a rectangle as a measurable attribute and find it in problems.
    • 3.GSR.7.1 Explore area by covering a rectangle with same-size units with no gaps or overlaps.
    • 3.GSR.7.2 Find the area of rectangles and shapes made of rectangles by tiling and counting.
    • 3.GSR.7.3 Discover that a rectangle's area can be found by multiplying its side lengths.
  • 3.GSR.8 Find the perimeter of polygons in real-life problems.
    • 3.GSR.8.1 Find perimeters of polygons with up to ten sides and explain perimeter as distance around.
    • 3.GSR.8.2 Show that rectangles with the same perimeter can have different areas, and the reverse.
