The standards (our summaries)
Arizona's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA)
- 2.OA.A.1 Solve one- and two-step add/subtract word problems within 100 of all types, with the unknown in any position, using drawings and equations.
- 2.OA.B.2 Add and subtract within 20 fluently with mental strategies and know all sums of two one-digit numbers from memory by the end of grade 2.
- 2.OA.C.3 Decide if a group of up to 20 objects is odd or even; write an even number as a double (e.g. 8 = 4 + 4).
- 2.OA.C.4 Use repeated addition to find the total in a rectangular array of up to 5 by 5 and write the matching equation.
Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)
- 2.NBT.A.1 Know a three-digit number is made of hundreds, tens and ones, including equivalent forms (e.g. 706 as 70 tens and 6 ones). (being checked)
- 2.NBT.A.2 Count within 1000 and skip-count by 5s, 10s and 100s.
- 2.NBT.A.3 Read and write numbers to 1000 as numerals, in words and in expanded form.
- 2.NBT.A.4 Compare two three-digit numbers by place value, recording with >, = and <.
- 2.NBT.B.5 Add and subtract within 100 fluently using place-value strategies, properties of operations or related facts.
- 2.NBT.B.6 Add up to three two-digit numbers using place-value strategies and properties of operations. (being checked)
- 2.NBT.B.7 Add and subtract within 1000 with models and place-value strategies, link them to a written method, and compose or decompose tens and hundreds.
- 2.NBT.B.8 Mentally add or subtract 10 or 100 to or from a number between 100 and 900.
- 2.NBT.B.9 Use place value and properties of operations to explain why add and subtract strategies work.
Measurement and Data (MD)
- 2.MD.A.1 Choose and use length tools (ruler, yardstick, meter stick, tape measure) to measure objects.
- 2.MD.A.2 Measure an object twice with different units and explain how the measurements relate to the unit size.
- 2.MD.A.3 Estimate lengths in inches, feet, centimeters and meters.
- 2.MD.A.4 Find the difference in length between two objects in a standard unit.
- 2.MD.B.5 Solve add/subtract word problems within 100 about lengths in the same unit, using drawings and equations.
- 2.MD.B.6 Show whole numbers as lengths on a number line and show sums and differences within 100 on it.
- 2.MD.C.7 Tell and write time to the nearest five minutes on analog and digital clocks, using a.m. and p.m.
- 2.MD.C.8 Solve word problems with bills and coins (quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies) using the $ and ¢ symbols.
- 2.MD.D.9 Measure several lengths to the nearest whole unit and show the data on a line plot.
- 2.MD.D.10 Draw picture and bar graphs for up to four categories and solve simple problems using a bar graph.
Geometry (G)
- 2.G.A.1 Identify and describe 2-D and 3-D shapes by their faces, angles, sides or vertices, and draw 2-D shapes with given attributes.
- 2.G.A.2 Divide a rectangle into equal rows and columns of small squares or rectangles and count them. (being checked)
- 2.G.A.3 Split circles and rectangles into 2, 3 or 4 equal shares, name them, and see equal shares of the same whole can look different.
Standards for Mathematical Practice (apply to every grade)
Standards for Mathematical Practice
- MP.1 Make sense of problems and keep going until they are solved. (being checked)
- MP.2 Reason with quantities both abstractly (symbols) and in context.
- MP.3 Build sound arguments and evaluate the reasoning of others.
- MP.4 Use mathematics to model real situations.
- MP.5 Choose and use tools wisely.
- MP.6 Be precise in language, symbols, units and calculation.
- MP.7 Look for structure and use it.
- MP.8 Notice repeated reasoning and turn it into general methods.
