The standards (our summaries)
Arizona's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA)
- 1.OA.A.1 Solve add/subtract word problems within 20 for all Table 1 situation types, with the unknown in any position.
- 1.OA.A.2 Solve word problems that add three whole numbers with a total of 20 or less.
- 1.OA.B.3 Use commutative and associative properties of addition as strategies to add and subtract within 20.
- 1.OA.B.4 See subtraction within 20 as finding an unknown addend (e.g. 10 − 8 by asking what adds to 8 to make 10).
- 1.OA.C.5 Connect counting to addition and subtraction, such as counting on to add.
- 1.OA.C.6 Add and subtract within 10 fluently. (being checked)
- 1.OA.D.7 Understand the equal sign and decide whether addition and subtraction equations are true or false.
- 1.OA.D.8 Work out the missing number in an add or subtract equation such as 8 + ? = 11.
Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)
- 1.NBT.A.1 Count to 120 starting at any number below 120, counting by ones, twos and tens; read and write numerals in this range. (being checked)
- 1.NBT.B.2 Know that in a two-digit number one digit counts tens and the other counts ones.
- 1.NBT.B.3 Compare two two-digit numbers using tens and ones, recording with >, = and <.
- 1.NBT.C.4 Add within 100 with objects, drawings and place-value strategies and connect to a written form (Table 1 situations).
- 1.NBT.C.5 Find 10 more or 10 less than a two-digit number mentally and explain how.
- 1.NBT.C.6 Subtract multiples of 10 from multiples of 10 (10–90, results zero or more) with models or place-value strategies.
Measurement and Data (MD)
- 1.MD.A.1 Put three objects in order by length and compare two lengths indirectly using a third object.
- 1.MD.A.2 Measure length as a whole number of same-size units laid end to end with no gaps or overlaps.
- 1.MD.B.3a Tell and write time to the hour and half hour on analog and digital clocks. (being checked)
- 1.MD.B.3b Identify pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters by name and value. (being checked)
- 1.MD.C.4 Organize and interpret data in up to three categories and answer questions about totals and differences.
Geometry (G)
- 1.G.A.1 Tell defining attributes of shapes from non-defining ones (e.g. color, size) and build and draw shapes with given attributes.
- 1.G.A.2 Put 2-D or 3-D shapes together to make a composite shape.
- 1.G.A.3 Split circles and rectangles into two or four equal shares and name them halves, fourths or quarters.
Standards for Mathematical Practice (apply to every grade)
Standards for Mathematical Practice
- MP.1 Make sense of problems and keep going until they are solved. (being checked)
- MP.2 Reason with quantities both abstractly (symbols) and in context.
- MP.3 Build sound arguments and evaluate the reasoning of others.
- MP.4 Use mathematics to model real situations.
- MP.5 Choose and use tools wisely.
- MP.6 Be precise in language, symbols, units and calculation.
- MP.7 Look for structure and use it.
- MP.8 Notice repeated reasoning and turn it into general methods.
