The standards (our summaries)
Alaska's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Counting and Cardinality (CC)
- 1.CC.1 Count forward by 2s and 5s.
- 1.CC.2 Use ordinal numbers to describe the position of objects.
- 1.CC.3 Order numbers from 1 to 100 and count forward and backward. (being checked)
- 1.CC.4 Group a large set into tens to count the total.
- 1.CC.5 Compare numbers using the symbols >, = and <.
- 1.CC.6 Estimate how many objects (up to 20) are in a set and check by counting.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA)
- 1.OA.1 Solve add/subtract word problems within 20 of all situation types, with the unknown in any position, using objects, drawings and equations.
- 1.OA.2 Solve word problems that add three whole numbers with a total of 20 or less.
- 1.OA.3 Use properties of operations (commutative, associative) as strategies to add and subtract.
- 1.OA.4 See subtraction as finding an unknown addend (e.g. 10 − 8 by asking what adds to 8 to make 10).
- 1.OA.5 Connect counting to addition and subtraction, such as counting on to add.
- 1.OA.6 Add and subtract within 20, fluent within 10, using strategies such as counting on from the larger number, making ten, decomposing and related facts. (being checked)
- 1.OA.7 Understand the equal sign and decide whether addition and subtraction equations are true or false.
- 1.OA.8 Work out the missing number in an add or subtract equation such as 8 + ? = 11.
- 1.OA.9 Recognize, describe and create repeating patterns with different elements.
Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)
- 1.NBT.1 Count to 120 and read, write and order numerals in this range.
- 1.NBT.2 Know that in a two-digit number one digit counts tens and the other counts ones.
- 1.NBT.3 Compare two two-digit numbers using the tens and ones digits.
- 1.NBT.4 Add within 100 (two-digit plus one-digit or plus a multiple of 10) with models and place-value strategies, explaining reasoning and composing a ten when needed.
- 1.NBT.5 Find 10 more or 10 less than a two-digit number mentally and explain how.
- 1.NBT.6 Subtract multiples of 10 from multiples of 10 (10–90) with models and place-value strategies, explaining the reasoning.
Measurement and Data (MD)
- 1.MD.1 Measure and compare the lengths of three objects using standard or nonstandard units.
- 1.MD.2 Measure length as a whole number of same-size units laid end to end with no gaps or overlaps.
- 1.MD.3 Tell and write time to the hour and half hour on analog and digital clocks.
- 1.MD.4 Use a calendar: name yesterday, today and tomorrow and read dates.
- 1.MD.5 Recognize and read the dollar ($) and cent (¢) symbols.
- 1.MD.6 Know coin values and find equivalent amounts up to one dollar.
- 1.MD.7 Organize and interpret data in up to three categories and answer questions about totals and differences.
Geometry (G)
- 1.G.1 Tell defining attributes of shapes from non-defining ones (e.g. color, size) and build and draw shapes with given attributes.
- 1.G.2 Combine 2-D or 3-D shapes to make a composite shape and make new shapes from it.
- 1.G.3 Split circles and rectangles into 2 or 4 equal shares, call them halves, fourths or quarters, and see that more shares are smaller.
Standards for Mathematical Practice (apply to every grade)
Standards for Mathematical Practice
- MP.1 Make sense of problems and keep going until they are solved. (being checked)
- MP.2 Reason with quantities both abstractly (symbols) and in context.
- MP.3 Build sound arguments and evaluate the reasoning of others.
- MP.4 Use mathematics to model real situations.
- MP.5 Choose and use tools wisely.
- MP.6 Be precise in language, symbols, units and calculation.
- MP.7 Look for structure and use it.
- MP.8 Notice repeated reasoning and turn it into general methods.
