Words Ending in a Letter
Word endings carry a lot of grammar and sound: plurals end in s, many adverbs in y, and rhymes depend on the last letters. The word site has a page of common words for each final letter, grouped by length.

What it does
Each letter page lists common words that end in that letter, from three to ten letters, with one section per length. A summary at the top gives the total, the largest length group and the top-scoring word. The X page, for example, lists 68 words, with six-letter words the biggest group, from box and fox up to chatterbox. Each length section shows at most 60 of the commonest words, each followed by a tile score.
There are pages for every final letter except J, Q and V. The Classfern button opens the A page; a row of letters at the bottom of every page leads to the others. For endings combined with other letters you know, each page suggests the unscrambler’s Ends with option or the word finder.

How to use it
- Press the button below to open the A page in a new tab.
- Use the letter row at the bottom of the page to choose the final letter you want.
- Read the summary, then go to the length section that suits your learners.
- For a narrower search, such as six-letter words ending in Y, try the unscrambler’s Ends with setting or the word finder.
More tips
- The S page is full of plurals and third-person verbs, which makes it useful for grammar work.
- Small pages, such as X, are perfect for a quick “guess the word” or word-hunt.
Ideas for the classroom and home learning
- Reception–KS1 (4–7)Pick a final sound, open its page and choose three-letter words for a rhyming game: children clap when two words share an ending.
- KS1–KS2 (5–9)Use the Y page to explore the two jobs y does at the end of a word, as in sky and happy, then sort words by the sound.
- KS2 (7–11)On the X page, find words like box and fox and practise adding -es to make plurals, then explain why -es is needed.
- KS3 (11–14)Compare the E and S pages and discuss what the most common endings in English tell us about how words are built.
Questions
Why does the button open the A page?
There is no single index page, so Classfern links to A. Every letter page links to all the others at the bottom.
Why are J, Q and V missing?
The word site doesn’t have pages for those final letters, as very few common English words end in them.
Are all the words shown?
Each length section shows at most 60 of the commonest words.
