The standards (our summaries)

Wyoming's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Mathematical Practices (MP)

  • 4.MP.1 Understand what a problem means, discuss solutions and look for ways to solve it.
  • 4.MP.2 Link quantities to symbols, think about units and use place value with whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • 4.MP.3 Explain thinking with models and equations and respond to others' reasoning.
  • 4.MP.4 Show situations in several ways, connect them and check results make sense.
  • 4.MP.5 Choose helpful tools, including estimation, to compare and measure.
  • 4.MP.6 Use clear language, careful units and accurate labels.
  • 4.MP.7 Find patterns and properties that explain calculations and make rule-based patterns.
  • 4.MP.8 Notice repeated steps, use models to understand algorithms and generalize.

Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA)

  • 4.OA.3 Solve multi-step whole-number word problems, including ones with remainders.
    • 4.OA.3a Write equations with a letter for the unknown.
    • 4.OA.3b Check answers are reasonable with mental math and estimation.

Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)

  • 4.NBT.2 Read, write and compare multi-digit numbers in several forms.
  • 4.NBT.3 Round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
  • 4.NBT.5 Multiply using place value and properties of multiplication.
    • 4.NBT.5a Multiply up to four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers.
    • 4.NBT.5b Multiply two two-digit numbers.
    • 4.NBT.5c Explain multiplication with equations, arrays or area models.
  • 4.NBT.6 Divide up to four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, finding quotients and remainders with models.

Number and Operations – Fractions (NF)

  • 4.NF.1 Show that fractions can be equivalent by changing the number and size of the parts.
  • 4.NF.2 Compare fractions with different numerators and denominators.
    • 4.NF.2a Compare fractions only when they refer to the same whole.
    • 4.NF.2b Record comparisons with >, = or <.
    • 4.NF.2c Justify comparisons with visual models.
  • 4.NF.3 See a fraction greater than 1 as a sum of unit fractions.
    • 4.NF.3a Add and subtract fractions as joining and separating parts of the same whole.
    • 4.NF.3b Break a fraction into sums of like-denominator fractions in more than one way, with equations and models.
    • 4.NF.3c Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators.
    • 4.NF.3d Solve word problems adding and subtracting like-denominator fractions.
  • 4.NF.7 Compare and order decimals to hundredths, justifying with models.

Measurement and Data (MD)

  • 4.MD.3 Use area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real and mathematical problems.
  • 4.MD.7 Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles.

Geometry (G)

  • 4.G.2 Classify 2D shapes by parallel or perpendicular lines and angle size, and identify right triangles.
