  • 3.MP.1 Understand what a problem means, try approaches and check answers make sense.
  • 3.MP.2 Link numbers to quantities and symbols, keeping units in mind.
  • 3.MP.3 Explain thinking with objects or drawings and respond to classmates' ideas.
  • 3.MP.4 Show situations in several forms (words, pictures, equations) and connect them.
  • 3.MP.5 Choose helpful tools, including estimation, and organize possible solutions.
  • 3.MP.6 Use clear language and correct units and symbols.
  • 3.MP.7 Spot patterns and use properties of operations to solve problems.
  • 3.MP.8 Notice repeated steps, look for shortcuts and keep checking results make sense.

Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA)

  • 3.OA.7 Multiply and divide within 100 fluently with factors 1–10, knowing one-digit products automatically.
  • 3.OA.8 Solve two-step word problems with all four operations, using order of operations when needed.
    • 3.OA.8a Write equations with a symbol for the unknown to represent two-step problems.
    • 3.OA.8b Judge whether answers are reasonable using mental math, estimation and rounding.

Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)

  • 3.NBT.2 Add and subtract within 1,000 fluently using place value and properties.

Number and Operations – Fractions (NF)

  • 3.NF.1 Understand unit fractions and fractions made of several unit parts.
  • 3.NF.2 Show fractions on number lines.
    • 3.NF.2a Place unit fractions on a number line by splitting 0 to 1 into equal parts.
    • 3.NF.2b Place a/b on a number line by marking a lengths of 1/b from 0.
  • 3.NF.3 Explain equivalent fractions and compare fractions by reasoning about size.
    • 3.NF.3a Know fractions are equivalent when they are the same size or the same point.
    • 3.NF.3b Make simple equivalent fractions and explain why they match.
    • 3.NF.3c Write whole numbers as fractions and recognize fractions equal to whole numbers.
    • 3.NF.3d Compare fractions with the same numerator or denominator for the same whole, using >, = or <.

Measurement and Data (MD)

  • 3.MD.4 Measure lengths to halves and fourths of an inch and show the data on a line plot.
  • 3.MD.7 Link area to multiplication and addition.
    • 3.MD.7a Find a rectangle's area by multiplying whole-number sides and check by counting squares.
    • 3.MD.7b Multiply side lengths to find areas in real and mathematical problems.
    • 3.MD.7c Use area models to show the distributive property with whole-number sides.

Geometry (G)

  • 3.G.1 Classify rhombuses, rectangles and squares as quadrilaterals by shared attributes and draw examples.
