The standards (our summaries)
New Jersey's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking (2.OA)
- 2.OA.A.1 Solve one- and two-step add/subtract word problems within 100, using pictures and equations with a box or letter for the unknown.
- 2.OA.B.2 Add and subtract within 20 accurately and efficiently with mental strategies; know all sums of two one-digit numbers from memory.
- 2.OA.C.3 Say whether up to 20 objects make an odd or even number; show even numbers as a double (e.g. 8 = 4 + 4).
- 2.OA.C.4 Use addition to find the total in rectangular arrays up to 5 by 5 and write an equation of equal addends.
Number and Operations in Base Ten (2.NBT)
- 2.NBT.A.1 Know a three-digit number is made of hundreds, tens and ones.
- 2.NBT.A.2 Count within 1000 and count in steps of 5, 10 and 100.
- 2.NBT.A.3 Read and write numbers to 1000 as numerals, number names and in expanded form.
- 2.NBT.A.4 Compare two three-digit numbers by hundreds, tens and ones digits, recording with >, = and <.
- 2.NBT.B.5 Add and subtract within 100 accurately and efficiently using place value, properties and the link between addition and subtraction.
- 2.NBT.B.6 Add as many as four two-digit numbers, using place value and properties of operations.
- 2.NBT.B.7 Add and subtract within 1000 with models, drawings and strategies, linked to a written method, including composing and decomposing tens or hundreds.
- 2.NBT.B.8 Mentally add or subtract 10 or 100 to or from a number between 100 and 900.
- 2.NBT.B.9 Give reasons why add and subtract strategies work, using place value and operation properties.
Measurement (2.M)
- 2.M.A.1 Measure length by choosing and using a suitable tool such as a ruler, yardstick, meter stick or tape measure.
- 2.M.A.2 Measure the same length with two different-sized units and explain how the unit size changes the measurement.
- 2.M.A.3 Estimate lengths in inches, feet, centimeters and meters.
- 2.M.A.4 Measure two objects and say by how many standard units one is longer.
- 2.M.B.5 Solve addition and subtraction word problems within 100 about lengths in the same unit.
- 2.M.B.6 Show whole numbers as distances from 0 on a number line and use it for sums and differences within 100.
- 2.M.C.7 Tell and write time to the nearest five minutes on analog and digital clocks, using a.m. and p.m.
- 2.M.C.8 Solve money word problems with bills and coins (quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies), writing $ and ¢ correctly.
Data Literacy (2.DL)
- 2.DL.A.1 Understand that people collect data to answer questions and that data can vary.
- 2.DL.A.2 Recognize different kinds of things that can be data, such as pictures, sounds and numbers.
- 2.DL.B.3 Measure lengths to the nearest whole unit and show the data on a whole-number line plot.
- 2.DL.B.4 Draw picture graphs and single-unit bar graphs with up to four categories and solve problems using them.
Geometry (2.G)
- 2.G.A.1 Recognize and draw shapes with given attributes such as number of angles; identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons and cubes.
- 2.G.A.2 Split a rectangle into rows and columns of equal squares and count them to find the total.
- 2.G.A.3 Cut circles and rectangles into 2, 3 or 4 equal parts (halves, thirds, fourths); equal parts can look different.
