The tests
About these tests
Free maths practice for Year 1 and Year 2, with a test for every area of the national curriculum for England in each year: number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, measurement (length, mass, capacity, money and time), geometry (shapes, position and direction) and, in Year 2, statistics.
Year 1 questions can be read aloud by your device: press Play. Each year also has a quick KS1 arithmetic practice set.
Every question is matched to a statement in the national curriculum for that year, and every answer has a short explanation.

- The KS1 mathematics test has two papers: Paper 1, arithmetic (25 marks, about 20 minutes) and Paper 2, mathematical reasoning (35 marks, about 35 minutes). Calculators are not allowed. Source: Key stage 1: mathematics test framework (Standards and Testing Agency)
How to use these tests
- Pick a topic your child is learning at school, or try the arithmetic set for a quick mix.
- Choose Practice to see each answer straight away, or Test to see them all at the end.
- Let your child use fingers, objects or paper for working. Look at the review at the end together.
How we wrote these tests
Every question is written by Classfern, never copied from a past paper. The answers are worked out by one computer program and checked again by a second, separate program, and every set is reviewed by an independent AI checker that did not write it.
