Each test picks 20 questions at random from a bank of 40 or more, so every attempt is different. Answers are marked straight away and every question has a short worked explanation.
The questions follow the GCSE mathematics subject content published by the Department for Education, which every exam board in England uses, so they suit any board. They are written by Classfern and are not past-paper questions.
Foundation tests cover the content on both tiers. Higher tests add the Higher-only content (shown in bold in the DfE content) and say so in the introduction. Each test says whether a calculator is allowed.
Key facts Foundation tier students are awarded a grade from 1 to 5 (or unclassified). Higher tier students are awarded a grade from 4 to 9 (or unclassified), with a grade 3 allowed for a Higher tier student who just misses grade 4. Choose Practice to see the answer and explanation after each question, or Test to see them all at the end. Have a pen and paper ready: these are written questions, just like the exam, but you type only the final answer. Round only when a question asks you to, and to the accuracy it gives (for example "correct to 1 decimal place"). Fractions are typed like 3/4. Use "Try again" for a fresh set of questions from the same bank. How we wrote these tests Answers are checked by computer programs, and every test is reviewed by an independent AI checker that didn't write it. Spot a mistake? Use the Report button.
