Year Planner

Plan a whole year of lessons for any subject, UK or US, that fits your school’s real calendar – and prove every part of the curriculum is covered.

  1. Pick the course – country or nation, subject and year, grade or qualification (including GCSE board and tier, A level, AP and state courses).
  2. Enter your dates – start from a typical school calendar for England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland or the US and change it to your school's term dates, holidays, INSET days, lessons per week and assessment weeks.
  3. Get your year plan – every unit in a sensible order and every lesson dated, with objectives linked to the curriculum, a starter, teaching points, activities, practice, homework and an exit check.

Your plan is kept in this browser. Never enter pupils' or students' names or personal details.

A whole year of lessons that fits your real calendar

Most schemes of work assume a perfect year. Yours has half terms, bank holidays, INSET days, mock weeks and trips. The Year Planner counts the lessons your class really has – from your term dates and timetable, including two-week timetables – and shares the course out so the important units get the time they need. If there are fewer lessons than the course needs, lessons cover more statements each; nothing is quietly left out.

Coverage you can prove

The coverage report checks every statement or standard for the year against the plan and shows the date it is first taught. Anything that is not scheduled is listed in red, so you can fix it before the year starts. Statements taught in another year of a key stage, or headings that are not taught on their own, are listed with the reason.

Change anything

  • Drag lessons into a different order, or move whole units up and down.
  • Lock a lesson to a date (a trip, a visitor, a practical in the lab).
  • Add your own lessons anywhere, edit titles, notes and homework.
  • Make a fresh version of any single lesson with one click.

Print, PDF, spreadsheet, calendar or Word

Print the plan on A4 or US Letter (or save it as a PDF), download a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets, add every lesson to Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar with the iCal file, or open it in Word to edit.

Free and Pro

Free: plan any course for the first half term (or first six weeks) and see the full coverage overview for the whole year. Classfern Pro: the whole year, saved to your account, shared with colleagues or your department, school licence sharing, and homework sent to your class's homework tracker.

Courses available now: 662 (274 for England, 139 for Scotland, 13 for Wales, 18 for Northern Ireland, 181 for the US, 37 for international courses). The unit order is our own suggested sequence built from what each unit needs first – not any exam board's or publisher's scheme of work. Default calendars are typical patterns worked out by rule: check your school's dates.

Questions teachers ask

Is the Year Planner free?

Yes. You can plan any course for the first half term (or first six weeks) and see the coverage overview for the whole year free. Classfern Pro plans the whole year and lets you save, share and send homework to your tracker.

Does it follow my exam board’s scheme of work?

No. The order is our own suggested sequence built from what each unit needs first. You can move units and lessons to match your school’s scheme.

Are the holiday dates right for my school?

The default calendars are typical patterns worked out by rule (half terms, bank holidays, US federal holidays). Every school, council, trust and district sets its own dates, so check them and change any that differ.

Does it use AI?

No. Plans are made in your browser in a second from our curriculum database. Nothing about your class is sent anywhere.

Can I use it with a two-week timetable?

Yes. Tick “Two-week timetable” and enter week A and week B lessons.
