2-Letter Words
The word site’s list of 116 two-letter words fits on one screen, yet it combines sight words a kindergartner knows with oddball words only board-game players use. That combination makes it a handy teaching tool.

What it does
Every two-letter word in the site’s list appears on the page, grouped by first letter from A to Y, with a count for each group and a point value beside each word. QI tops the chart at 11 points. The A group is by far the largest, while letters like C, F and Q have a single entry each.
Two-letter words are prized in tile word games because they let players slip a tile alongside an existing word and score both ways. In the classroom, the list doubles as a sorting task: some entries are classic sight words (at, in, is, it, on, up, go, me, we), some are interjections (ah, oh, uh, hm), and others are letter names or rare borrowed words that students will want to look up.

How to use it
- Open the list in a new tab.
- Look at each letter heading to see how many two-letter words start with it.
- Check the number after each word for its point value.
- To find two-letter words from a specific set of letters, open the unscrambler and pick an exact word length in its More options panel.
More tips
- In tile games, memorizing the short words that use J, Q and X (like JO, QI, XI and XU) pays off fastest.
- Different games use different official dictionaries, so treat the list as a guide rather than the final word on what’s allowed.
Ideas for the classroom and homeschool
- Grades K–1Pull ten sight words from the list (at, it, in, is, on, up, go, no, me, we) for flashcard drills. Students blend the sounds, read the word, then say it in a sentence.
- Grades 2–3Hand small groups 15 words and have them sort into “I use it”, “I’ve heard it” and “What is that?”, then look up the last group in a classroom dictionary.
- Grades 3–5Build a two-letter word chain on the whiteboard: each student adds a word that shares a letter with the previous one, forming a mini crossword.
- Grades 6–8Make it a data lesson: using the point values shown, students calculate the mean, median and range for the A group and compare it with another letter.
