What it does
The unscrambler on Unscramble Words 4U takes any jumble of letters and lists the words they can spell. Results refresh as you type and are sorted into groups by length, longest first. Each word shows a point value based on the standard letter values used in tile-based board games, so players can weigh up their choices quickly (board bonuses aren’t included).
It works well for students growing their vocabulary, families on game night and adults working through a puzzle. The search runs right in your browser, so what you type stays on your device, and it carries on working offline after the page finishes loading.

How to use it
- Open the unscrambler and enter your letters in the main box. Press Shuffle to rearrange them for a fresh view, or Clear to begin again.
- For a wildcard, enter ? or tap the space bar. Two blanks at most are allowed; any letter a blank supplies is underlined and scores zero.
- Open More options to require letters at the start, at the end or anywhere in the word, and to choose an exact length from 2 to 15 letters.
- Pick a sort order: by how common a word is, alphabetically, or by points.
- Under Dictionary, choose US, UK or Both spellings, or change the word list to another language. For accented languages, the Ignore accents box lets é match e.
- Click any word in the results to open its Wiktionary page in a new tab and check its meaning.

More tips
- Set Dictionary to US when you want spellings like color and center and no British-only forms.
- Use Ends with to find words with a suffix you are teaching, such as -tion or -ful.
Ideas for the classroom and homeschool
- Grades K–2Hand a small group five letter cards, let them build three-letter words on their own, then show the unscrambler’s list and celebrate the ones they found.
- Grades 3–5Run a quick word-building warm-up: write the letters of a vocabulary word on the board and challenge the class to match the count of words in the two longest groups. Use Starts with or Ends with to target the prefixes and suffixes on this week’s spelling list.
- Grades 6–8Add a math twist with the points sort: students guess which word scores highest, check the list, then explain why a short word with rare letters can outscore a long one.
- Grades 9–12 and adult learnersHave learners choose five unfamiliar words from the results, look each one up through the Wiktionary link and write a sentence using it correctly.

Questions
Does the Word Unscrambler cost anything?
No. It is free on unscramblewords4u.com and needs no sign-up. Classfern simply points teachers and families to it.
Why is a word my game allows missing from the list?
The tool is built on open word lists rather than any official tournament list, which means a handful of rare words may differ. For casual games, homework and puzzles it covers the words most people need.
What are the numbers shown beside each word?
They show points using standard English tile values, with letters like Q and Z worth the most. Double- and triple-word squares are not counted.
Is it okay for kids to use?
The word list is a general one, so it may include slang or words you wouldn’t pick for a classroom. Preview the results before putting them on a shared screen with younger students.
