Why log tutoring sessions?

A tutor may teach a whole subject, such as maths or a GCSE, so their lessons are part of your child's education. A short line after each session means you always know what was covered, and the term summary adds the tutor's view to your home education records.

How to use it

Use one log per tutor and subject.
Ask the tutor to fill in a line at the end of each session and add their initials.
At the end of each term, fill in the summary page together.

Choosing and working with a tutor

Agree goals at the start and review them each term.
Ask for references, and decide what background checks, such as a DBS check, you want.
Stay nearby for sessions with younger children, and for online sessions.

No qualification is needed to tutor, so ask about experience and references, and agree goals at the start.

Should the tutor sign the log?

It is a good habit. Initials after each session and a signature on the term summary show the record is accurate.
