Pages in the planner

  • Weekly timetable: subjects or times down the side, Monday to Friday across.
  • Year overview: each subject with the resources you use and your goals for the year.
  • Reading log: date, title, pages or minutes and notes.
  • Learning log: what you did each day of the week, including trips, clubs and learning at weekends.

Tips for a home education timetable

  • Keep maths and English little and often, and give bigger blocks to projects, science and the arts.
  • Leave space for trips, groups and your child's own interests.
  • Plan a week at a time and fill in the learning log as you go. It doubles as a record of what you covered.

Keep records of work and progress with the home education records template.

Questions teachers ask

How many hours a day should home education take?

There is no set number of hours. One-to-one teaching is quicker than a class, so many families find a few focused hours a day plus reading, projects and trips works well.

Do I need a timetable?

No, but many families find a simple weekly plan helps, and it also shows what you have covered.
