The standards (our summaries)
Utah's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.
Counting and Cardinality (K.CC)
- K.CC.1 Count aloud to 100 in ones and in tens.
- K.CC.2 Count on from any given number in the counting sequence instead of always starting at 1.
- K.CC.3 Write the numerals 0–20 and use a numeral to show how many objects there are (0 for none).
- K.CC.4 Link counting to quantity: understand how number names match the size of a set.
- K.CC.5 Count to answer "how many?" for objects in a line, array or circle (CCSS limits: 20 arranged, 10 scattered) and count out a set. (being checked)
- K.CC.6 Tell whether one group has more, fewer or the same number of objects as another, by matching or counting.
- K.CC.7 Compare two written numerals between 1 and 10.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking (K.OA)
- K.OA.1 Show addition and subtraction in many ways: objects, fingers, drawings, sounds, acting out, words, expressions or equations.
- K.OA.2 Solve addition and subtraction story problems within 10, using objects or drawings to model them.
- K.OA.3 Break numbers up to 10 into pairs in different ways and record each split with a drawing or equation.
- K.OA.4 For any number 1–9, find the partner that makes 10 and record it with a drawing or equation.
- K.OA.5 Add and subtract within 5 fluently.
Number and Operations in Base Ten (K.NBT)
- K.NBT.1 Build and break apart 11–19 as ten ones plus extra ones, recording with drawings or equations (e.g. 18 = 10 + 8).
Measurement and Data (K.MD)
- K.MD.1 Describe measurable attributes such as length or weight, including several attributes of one object.
- K.MD.2 Compare two objects directly by a shared attribute and describe which has more or less of it (e.g. taller/shorter).
- K.MD.3 Sort objects into given categories, count each category and order the categories by count.
Geometry (K.G)
- K.G.1 Name shapes seen in the environment and describe where things are using words like above, below, beside and behind.
- K.G.2 Name shapes correctly whatever their size or orientation.
- K.G.3 Tell flat (two-dimensional) shapes from solid (three-dimensional) shapes.
- K.G.4 Compare 2-D and 3-D shapes of different sizes and orientations in informal language, noting sides, corners and other features.
- K.G.5 Model real-world shapes by building them from parts (e.g. sticks and clay) and by drawing them.
- K.G.6 Put simple shapes together to make larger shapes.
Standards for Mathematical Practice (apply to every grade)
Standards for Mathematical Practice
- MP.1 Make sense of problems and keep going until they are solved. (being checked)
- MP.2 Reason with quantities both abstractly (symbols) and in context.
- MP.3 Build sound arguments and evaluate the reasoning of others.
- MP.4 Use mathematics to model real situations.
- MP.5 Choose and use tools wisely.
- MP.6 Be precise in language, symbols, units and calculation.
- MP.7 Look for structure and use it.
- MP.8 Notice repeated reasoning and turn it into general methods.
