The standards (our summaries)

Ohio's official codes with our own short summaries (not the official wording). Each code links to the official document.

Ratios and Proportional Relationships (7.RP)

  • 7.RP.1 Compute unit rates from ratios of fractions, including lengths, areas and quantities in different units.
  • 7.RP.2 Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.
    • a. Test proportionality with equivalent ratios or a straight graph through the origin.
    • b. Find the unit rate in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams and descriptions.
    • c. Write equations for proportional relationships, e.g. total cost = price × number.
    • d. Explain graph points in context, especially (0, 0) and (1, r).
  • 7.RP.3 Use proportional reasoning for multistep ratio and percent problems, such as money and measurement.

The Number System (7.NS)

  • 7.NS.1 Add and subtract rational numbers using number lines, opposites and distance.
    • a. Describe real situations where opposite quantities make 0.
    • b. See p + q as moving
    • c. See subtraction as adding the opposite; distance is the absolute difference.
    • d. Use properties of operations to add and subtract rational numbers.
  • 7.NS.2 Extend multiplication and division of fractions to all rational numbers.
    • a. Justify the sign rules for products and relate them to real contexts.
    • b. Understand integer quotients (nonzero divisor) are rational and apply them.
    • c. Use properties of operations to multiply and divide rational numbers.
    • d. Convert rational numbers to decimals by long division; they end or repeat.
  • 7.NS.3 Solve real-world problems with the four operations on rational numbers, including complex fractions.

Expressions and Equations (7.EE)

  • 7.EE.1 Add, subtract, factor and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
  • 7.EE.2 Understand that rewriting an expression can show how quantities in a problem are related.
  • 7.EE.3 Solve multistep real-life problems with rational numbers in any form and check answers by estimating.
  • 7.EE.4 Write and solve one-variable equations and inequalities for word problems.
    • a. Solve px + q = r and p(x + q) = r problems; compare with arithmetic methods.
    • b. Solve px + q > r or < r problems, graph and interpret solutions.

Geometry (7.G)

  • 7.G.1 Solve problems with similar triangles and quadrilaterals using scale drawings and proportional reasoning.
    • a. Find actual lengths and areas from scale drawings and redraw at a new scale.
    • b. Show proportional relationships within and between similar figures.
  • 7.G.2 Draw geometric shapes with given conditions freehand, with tools or with technology.
    • a. Build triangles from given angles or sides; decide if none, one or many exist.
    • b. Build quadrilaterals from given conditions and examine their types and properties.
  • 7.G.3 Describe the 2D cross-sections made by slicing right rectangular prisms and pyramids.
  • 7.G.4 Work with circumference, diameter, radius and area of circles.
    • a. Explore how circumference, diameter, radius and area relate.
    • b. Use circle area and circumference formulas to solve problems.
  • 7.G.5 Write and solve equations from angle relationships to find unknown angles in multistep problems.
  • 7.G.6 Find area, volume and surface area of composite figures made from polygons, cubes and right prisms.

Statistics and Probability (7.SP)

  • 7.SP.1 Use random samples to draw inferences about a population, understanding representativeness and bias.
    • a. Know the difference between a sample and a population.
    • b. Generalize only from representative samples; understand bias informally.
  • 7.SP.2 Use the GAISE process: pose questions, collect, analyze and interpret data.
    • a. Form statistical questions expecting variability.
    • b. Design and use a plan to collect suitable data.
    • c. Choose displays and statistics to show variability and compare groups.
    • d. Draw logical conclusions and generalizations tied to the question.
  • 7.SP.3 Describe and compare data sets using mean absolute deviation (MAD), with the mean as a balance point.
    • a. Describe a data set with MAD and the mean as a balance point.
    • b. Judge overlap of two distributions by center difference in MAD units.
  • 7.SP.5 Understand probability as a number from 0 to 1 showing how likely an event is.
  • 7.SP.6 Estimate probability from long-run relative frequency and predict frequency from a probability.
  • 7.SP.7 Build probability models, use them to find probabilities and compare with observed results.
    • a. Build uniform models with equally likely outcomes.
    • b. Build models from observed frequencies and judge if outcomes are equally likely.
