What goes in a homeschool portfolio?
- A cover page with your approach and main subjects for the year.
- Work samples from each subject across the year: early, middle and late, so progress shows.
- A reading list of books read alone and together.
- Field trips and activities, with what your child learned.
- Progress notes each term, and test or quiz results if you use them.
- An end-of-year summary.
How to keep it simple
Use a binder or a folder on your computer with one section per page of this template. Add one or two samples a week and log them as you go, so you never have to build the portfolio in a rush. Some states use a portfolio review or an evaluation at the end of the year; check your state's requirements to see what it should include.
Dated results from our free practice tests make good evidence of progress in math and reading.

Frequently asked questions
How many work samples should a portfolio have?
Enough to show progress in each subject: a few from the start, middle and end of the year is a good rule. Quality matters more than quantity.
Can a portfolio be digital?
Yes. Scan or photograph work and log where each file is saved in the "Where it is kept" column.
