What it does
The page sorts the site’s 4,439 common five-letter words by first letter, displaying a selection of at most 40 high-frequency words per letter, each with a point value. JAZZY is the highest scorer, worth 33.
In a Wordle-style game, players guess a five-letter word and learn which letters are in the correct spot, which are in the word but misplaced, and which aren’t there at all. Every clue narrows the field, so the game is really a lesson in deductive reasoning. The word site connects this list to two helpers: a Wordle solver that reads your colored tiles and recommends a next guess, and a word finder that lists the words still possible once you know some letters and have eliminated others.

How to use it
- Open the list in a new tab.
- Pick a letter heading to browse common five-letter words and their point values.
- Stuck in a guessing game? Follow the link to the Wordle solver or word finder and enter the clues you have.
- To find five-letter words from a set of letters, open the unscrambler and pick an exact length of 5 in its More options panel.
More tips
- Play on paper first so students explain their thinking out loud before any tool offers help.
- Use the solver to check reasoning after the fact rather than as a shortcut, so the thinking stays with the student.
Ideas for the classroom and homeschool
- Grades 3–5Play a whole-class guessing game on the board. Secretly pick a word from the list; teams take turns guessing while you mark letters in three marker colors. Teams must explain how each guess uses the clues.
- Grades 3–5Flip roles: each student chooses a five-letter word from the list and runs the game for a partner. Giving accurate feedback requires careful spelling.
- Grades 6–8Make it a logic lesson. After each guess, students record confirmed, possible and eliminated letters, then use the word finder to see how many words remain.
- Grades 6–8Use the point values for a data activity: compare the top-scoring word in five letter groups and discuss which letters drive scores up.
