Recipe scaler
Works in the UK and the US. This version uses UK words and measures (hob, grams, gas marks); the US version uses stove, cups and °F. · US version of this page
Choose one of our recipes or type in your own, then say how many people you are feeding. Every amount is recalculated and rounded to something you can measure: grams to the nearest 5 g, spoons to the nearest quarter, eggs to whole eggs.

How it works in the kitchen
To scale a recipe, divide the new number of people by the old number to get the scale factor, then multiply every ingredient by it. Doubling a recipe for 4 to feed 8 gives a factor of 2; going from 4 to 6 gives 1.5. Seasoning, baking powder and spices are best added a little at a time and tasted, and cooking times change less than amounts – a bigger batch in more trays takes about the same time.
