7-Letter Words
Seven letters is where everyday words get hard to spell: because, believe, between, brought. The word site lists 9,669 common seven-letter words, a great source for spelling and anagram activities.

What it does
Words are grouped by first letter, with a selection of at most 40 high-frequency words per letter and a point value next to each. PIZZAZZ is the top scorer at 45 points, thanks to its three Zs.
The A and B groups alone include words students often misspell, like achieve, ancient, against, already, because, believe and brought. You’ll also find compound words such as bedroom and backlog, which show how two short words combine into one. And because many tile word games give each player seven tiles, finding a word that uses all seven letters is a classic challenge students enjoy.

How to use it
- Open the list in a new tab.
- Choose a letter heading and browse its common seven-letter words and point values.
- Jot down any words your students struggle with and add them to a personal spelling list.
- To find every word in a set of seven letters, open the unscrambler and pick an exact length of 7 in its More options panel, or try the anagram solver.
More tips
- For anagram practice, write a word’s seven letters in a circle; breaking the line makes new words easier to see.
- Have students split compound words into parts before spelling them.
- Keep a class “demon words” chart: every time a seven-letter word trips someone up, add it with its tricky part underlined.
Ideas for the classroom and homeschool
- Grades 3–5Pick five commonly misspelled seven-letter words from the list (because, believe, brought, between, already). Students practice with “look, say, cover, write, check” and create a memory trick for each.
- Grades 3–5Run a “words within words” race: post a seven-letter word from the list and give partners three minutes to make as many shorter words as possible. Check answers with the words-from-letters tool.
- Grades 6–8Find compound words in one letter group, split them, then invent new compound words and debate whether they could catch on.
- Grades 6–8Start class with scrambled seven-letter words; students unscramble them and use each in a sentence connected to the day’s topic.
