How do I make a lesson plan with the Lesson Plan Maker?

Open the Lesson Plan Maker on the home page, choose a format, and type into the boxes. Your plan saves itself in this browser as you type, so there is no Save button.

Step by step

  1. Go to the Lesson Plan Maker (it is on the home page).
  2. Choose a Lesson plan format from the list, for example Standard, UK lesson plan, 5E or EYFS activity plan.
  3. Fill in the lesson title, subject, grade or year, date and length in minutes.
  4. Type into each section. In the timed sections, add a row for each step with its minutes; the total shows under the form (“Planned: 45 min of 50 min”).
  5. Look for “Saved in this browser” under the form. That means your plan is kept.
  6. When you are ready, use Print, PDF, Word (.docx) or Copy for Google Docs under “Save and share”.

The total says I am over time

The Planned total adds up the minutes in the timed sections and compares them with the Length box. Shorten a step or change the length; the warning goes as soon as the total fits.

My work has gone, or isn’t there on another computer

Your lesson plans is saved in this browser on this device only – nothing is stored with us, so we can’t get it back for you. It won’t appear in a different browser, on another device, or in a private (incognito) window, and clearing your browser’s history or “site data” deletes it. Some school computers clear everything when you log off.

It says it can’t save, or my work disappears when I close the page

Your browser is blocking storage. This happens in private or incognito windows, when cookies and site data are blocked for the site, and on some managed school devices. Open the page in a normal window, or allow site data for this site in your browser settings. Until then, keep a copy by downloading or printing before you close the page.
