How do I make a field trip safety plan?
Open the activity safety plan maker or the field trip planning page, pick a starter plan (day trip, overnight, outdoor, lab, PE, CTE, classroom animals and more), then edit it and download it as Word or PDF.
Step by step
- Open the field trip safety plan or the activity safety plan maker.
- Choose the Starter template closest to your activity.
- Edit the hazards and precautions, add contacts by role, and complete the checklist sections (before, on the day, afterward).
- Find your plans again under My safety plans.
- Press Print, PDF or Word (.docx), and share it with your principal or district for approval.
Questions and fixes
My work has gone, or isn’t there on another computer
Your safety plans is saved in this browser on this device only – nothing is stored with us, so we can’t get it back for you. It won’t appear in a different browser, on another device, or in a private (incognito) window, and clearing your browser’s history or “site data” deletes it. Some school computers clear everything when you log off.
Does this meet my district’s rules?
Each district and state has its own field trip policy. Use the plan as a starting point and follow your district’s forms and approval steps.
