How do I back up my lesson plans or move them to another computer?
In My plans, press Download backup (.json) to save all your plans in one file. On the other computer, open My plans and choose Restore from backup.
Step by step
- Open the Lesson Plan Maker and press My plans.
- Press Download backup (.json). A file named lesson-plans-backup-<date>.json is saved to your Downloads folder.
- Copy the file to the other computer (by email to yourself, a USB stick or your school drive).
- On the other computer, open the Lesson Plan Maker, press My plans, then Restore from backup and choose the file.
- A message tells you how many plans were restored. Plans already on that computer are kept.
Questions and fixes
It says “That file is not a plans backup from this site”
Choose the .json file made by Download backup, not a Word or PDF file. If you opened and saved the file in another program, download a fresh backup.
Will restoring overwrite my plans?
No. Restored plans are added to the ones already there. If a plan with the same identity already exists, the restored one is added as a separate copy.
How often should I back up?
Now and then, and always before clearing your browser data, changing computer or the end of a school year. The backup is a plain file that only you hold.
