How do I back up my School Report Writer classes?
Use Backup and safety in the Report Writer to download an encrypted backup, locked with a passphrase you choose. Do it regularly: nothing is stored with us, so clearing your browser or losing the device would lose your classes.
Step by step
- Open the report writer and go to Backup and safety.
- Choose a long passphrase you will remember, and download the encrypted backup.
- Store the file where your school allows (for example your school drive).
- To restore it on another device, open Backup and safety there, choose the file and type the passphrase.

Questions and fixes
I have forgotten my passphrase
We can’t help with this, by design: the backup is encrypted in your browser and nobody, including us, can open it without the passphrase. Make a new backup with a new passphrase while your data is still on the device.
What about the CSV of marks?
The plain CSV is not encrypted. Keep it only where your school allows.
My work has gone, or isn’t there on another computer
Your Report Writer data is saved in this browser on this device only – nothing is stored with us, so we can’t get it back for you. It won’t appear in a different browser, on another device, or in a private (incognito) window, and clearing your browser’s history or “site data” deletes it. Some school computers clear everything when you log off.
